Health & Wellness CoachHelping you reach your full potential
Hi, I’m Sarah Baumgartner. I am a busy mom, wife, daughter, friend, health coach and entrepreneur. I understand the challenges related to running a household, holding down a job, being a mom and the guilt that often comes along with taking time for yourself. I help women like you increase energy, prioritize self-care and help reach health goals that lead to long lasting results.
My Story
I love helping people uncover what it is they want most and helping them achieve their goals! I am the oldest of 4 girls and spent most of my life “coaching” my sisters and then when they had had enough of me, I moved on to coaching others.
I am passionate about preparing healthy meals (with normal ingredients) for my family, enjoy a good run, love to garden and am an avid reader.
Growing up, I had a great example in my mother who I remember running or doing Jane Fonda workouts despite having 4 girls within 4 years (yes, there was a set of twins). We had a huge garden and I spent many a night snapping beans for canning just so I could watch a TV program.
In college, I coached high school track and taught swimming lessons to fill my desire to help kids unlock their potential and believe in themselves. I obtained a B.S. in Exercise and Sports Science Kinesiology with a minor in coaching. Despite my knowledge of nutrition and physical activity, I like many college students found myself at my heaviest weight as a result of drinking to much beer, eating too much pizza and getting very little exercise. I knew I needed to make some changes, I didn’t feel good about myself, but I struggled to get back on track. I did a few “fad” diets or worked out feverishly for a few weeks, but I always fell back into my old ways and saw spotty results.
I worked for my first 4 years in the “real world” as an Exercise Physiologist and Community Wellness Coordinator, discussing prevention and chronic disease management with health system employees, work-sites and individuals in the community. Talk about motivation to get healthy! I did some soul-searching, set small goals, found some support and got myself back on track.
After I became a mom of two beautiful boys, once again, I found myself not practicing self-care. I realized that what I had witnessed in my mother (healthy homemade food and physical activty) wasn’t as easy as I had originally thought.
I like many moms today work outside the home. I understand the demands of working for someone else, or working for yourself (I co-founded and owned an early learning center) in addition to taking care of kids, a husband and a household.
After listening to many women share their desire to change certain aspects of their health and life, I realized that I could help them through my own experiences and education. I obtained my health and wellness coaching certification to add to my current knowledge base and have started helping women to feel empowered not frustrated with change.
I get the opportunity to help women see how powerful they are, and that just because they put themselves first doesn’t mean their families suffer. It is actually quite the opposite because when we take care of our own well-being, we are equipped to increase the well-being of our family AND our kids get to see our positive example. I feel so blessed to get to work with amazing women and lift each other up. We all have so much to be proud of!
My Approach
I believe that you have most of the answers. I will not push my beliefs or what “you should” do on to you. I don’t believe in one size fits all or that a certain fad will help you in the long term. I will listen to your true health desires and hold you accountable.
My approach is one of collaboration. I will challenge you to think outside of who you are today and to dream of who you want to become. We will design a plan together with a clear path to get you moving in the right direction. We will evaluate and discuss potential roadblocks you may encounter and revisit your plan on every visit to adjust as needed.
Health is more than diet and exercise. Stress, sleep, water consumption, parenting, relationships, finances and career also play a huge role in our well-being. I will listen to what your true challenge is and together we will craft a plan that is right for you.
This is YOUR health. I am here to guide you, share information as you request, pick you up when you fall and celebrate in your success.
My Beliefs
You are the key to your own success and you are worth it!
For the most part, we know what it is we need to change. Every time we hear, “you should,” from well intended friends, family and medical professionals our inner toddler comes out. Whether subconsciously or not we immediately feel less than enthusiastic to make the change.
You are in control of your life, every day you make choices (good or bad) and you have the power to decide what that choice is.
YOU are the key to long term success.
Planning and Organization are key
Most of us wouldn’t go out and run a marathon without planning, preparing, learning about what we need to do and gaining support.
Uncovering your true desires and crafting realistic goals, planning for how you will attain those goals and organizing your time to allow for change is key to making your goal a lifestyle.
Without support we all fall victim to our "old self"
Support is one of the most important aspects of being successful at anything we aspire to in life. While we may be fortunate to have a friend or loved one who is committed to our success, the reality is that very few women have someone who provides undivided attention and support to what they find important. Let me help support your dreams.
